Have you heard of this miracle cure called “sleep?” It’s not new, but it’s often overlooked.
For the first 36 years of my life, I didn’t think much of it. It just happened. I guess that means I was pretty good at it. Oh, how little we appreciate the ever-present treasures that exist automatically.
Once my daughter was born, sleep and I began to have complications in our relationship and our nightly trysts were painfully thwarted by a waking baby. Bleary-eyed and...
Autumn is one of my favorite seasons. Walking or driving through our little town of Nevada City, California, I am forever gasping at the beauty of nature's colorful display. I even have specific "favorite" trees I watch throughout this time of year.
If we listen, we can hear Fall's leaf colors whispering to slow down and begin to collect ourselves for the invitation to rest in Winter.
Slip into your own skin. Ask your body, “Love, what do you need?” An answer will...
You have plenty to do and your time is valuable. I'm dedicated to sharing simple, potent information, so I’ve made sure that you can read (or watch) each one of these Readers' Favorite Love Letters within 3-5 minutes. Enjoy!
This hearty recipe offers several chances to decide just how “from scratch” you want your baking to be. The vegetable broth can be either homemade or store-bought, as can the non-dairy milk. Even if you decide to make everything from scratch, the preparatory steps including cooking the potatoes, cooking the lentils, and making the broth, can be done well in advance.
Once those steps are done, the rest of the recipe is fairly simple and comes together quickly.
This week, there’s been a theme with my clients. They’re putting into practice some of the tools I suggest and their lives are changing. For the better.
Can you resonate with this? One of my clients—let’s call her Jackie—has always been a people pleaser. She’s at the top of everyone’s list when they need something done because she’s always said yes. But she started feeling overwhelmed, exhausted, and used up by life. By the time she was...
At the base of everything we do, our goal is to be happy. It may not always look that way on the surface, but if you really drill down, you'll see that it's true.
Here’s a little experiment I’ve done with my clients and in my classes. First, I ask someone to tell me a small goal they have and then follow with a series of questions. Here’s an example:
Goal: I want to volunteer at an animal shelter.
A: I want to help animals.
Q: What does it do for you to be...
Just before the explosion of the Grunge Scene in Seattle, I left for New York with my then-boyfriend's rock band.
On a Greyhound Bus, we rode to the place where they would become rock stars. I went not as "the girlfriend," but to learn to be a band manager. After days on that bus, I discovered that it was possible for my derrière to be equally sore and numb.
We landed in Harlem in 1989 where I shared a studio apartment with five long-haired guys. Yes,...
I had other plans for today's Love Letter to you. I was all set to tell you about my new project, and now, all I can think about is what's happening to our planet. All the devastation and loss of life—in all forms. First Harvey, now Irma, then Jose and Katia. All interwoven with insane fires and ash on the west coast and an enormous earthquake in Mexico. This is a scary time with some crazy weather.
As a native Floridian with pretty much all of my family living...
Did you know that making choices is one of THE most taxing things we do? It's true! And we make thousands of them every single day.
With so many decisions to make, it’s no surprise that they're not always easy, and that we don’t get them all right, all the time.
It can be a challenge to decide, especially when the mind gets chatty as we weigh the various options. And we certainly don't need to add to the thousands we're already making. That's where the body’s wisdom can...
For someone who encourages saying no, I've said yes a lot this past week. The key is that all of my yeses have been in alignment with my big YES. Do you know what yours is?
So how do I decide what's a yes and what's a no? For years, I've used a free tool called the Body Pendulum to break free from the mental gymnastics and ask my body so I can choose with ease instead of stress, internal conflict, and fear. Would you like some of that? I'll be making a video for you soon!
In addition to ...
Want to know how it would feel if you moved yourself to the top of your priority list, could lovingly say "no" to what's not in alignment, and lived your life "on purpose?"
